Tensions have once again flared in Pakistan's Balochistan province. Some armed men suspected of being Baloch separatists have abducted 20 police personnel who were undergoing training. The incident took place in the Gorgina area of Mastung district on Friday evening. The armed men intercepted a van carrying police recruits who were going to their hometowns on leave from the Kalat Recruit Training Center and kidnapped them.

Alerted by the incident, Pakistani security forces have launched a massive search operation to trace the abducted policemen. Checkpoints have been set up across Mastung district and security has been tightened. In the same vein, Baloch separatists have also set fire to some cargo trucks near Turbat. Investigations into these incidents are ongoing.

Allegations of custodial deaths come to the fore

In the wake of these attacks, the long-standing allegations of enforced disappearances and custodial deaths against Pakistani security forces in Balochistan have once again come to the fore. Recently, the body of a school teacher named Parvez was found in Pasni. A day earlier, the Balochistan Post reported that he had been detained by Pakistani security forces in the presence of his family members. Pakistani authorities have not yet made any official statement on Parvez's arrest and death.

Human rights groups have alleged that such incidents have increased this year. In August, another teacher named Hatim Baloch from Panjgur was abducted by unknown persons and his body was found a few weeks later. Similarly, the body of a teacher named Ayaz Baloch, who was detained by Pakistani forces in October last year, was found in January this year.

Sensational things in the report

According to a report released by the 'Baloch Yakzehti Committee (BYC), 507 enforced disappearances were recorded in Balochistan from January to June 2026. It is noteworthy that 135 of them were students, teachers and researchers. The organization alleged that 32 of them died in custody.

On October 9, a drone attack was carried out on a house in Mastung district, where the latest kidnapping incident took place, injuring two civilians. The BYC alleged that the Pakistani army is threatening the lives of civilians by attacking residential areas with drones and fighter jets. On the one hand, attacks by separatists and on the other hand, serious allegations against the security forces have raised questions about the safety of ordinary citizens in Balochistan.
