The fruits of development should reach the last person at the bottom of the society and the country will be prosperous only when there is a smile on their face, said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat. He was addressing a programme organised in Yavatmal, Maharashtra, on the occasion of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya's birth anniversary.
He made it clear that development does not mean bringing everyone to the same level, but it is about reducing the differences and gaps between different sections of the society as much as possible. Bhagwat said that he is against the argument of 'maximum benefit for a few' and wants 'good for all' as Deendayal Upadhyaya had hoped. On this occasion, he recalled Mahatma Gandhi's principle that the welfare of the poorest person in the society should be kept in mind in every decision taken.
He explained that real development is to provide basic necessities like food, cloth, and shade to every person, as well as quality education and healthcare, and to ensure that they live with dignity. He suggested that farmers should not get bogged down in debt, adopt organic and mixed farming methods, and achieve self-sufficiency in seeds and fertilizers. He advised that nature should not be destroyed in the name of progress. Mohan Bhagwat called for the responsibility of development not only to be the government's responsibility, but also for society to play its part.
