Dramatic developments took place in the national capital Delhi today. Three leaders, including 'Cockroach Janata Party' (CJP) founder Abhijeet Deepke, were detained by the police as soon as the plane they were travelling in landed in Delhi. The incident took place a few hours before the protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar.
Abhijeet Deepke, party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were travelling in an Air India flight from Mumbai to Delhi, were detained by a team of Delhi Police including women officers shortly after the plane landed. On this occasion, Deepke strongly protested the police action on the plane itself. He
challenged the police that he had come prepared to be arrested and would not be afraid of anyone. Describing these developments as dictatorship, he commented that even Indira Gandhi did not act like this during the Emergency. Videos of the incident are currently going viral on social media.
The police clarified that they were detained as a precautionary measure as they were not allowed to protest at Jantar Mantar. The CJP had called for the protest alleging irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' list. The CJP alleged that the police had resorted to these detentions to prevent its leaders from reaching the protest site.
However, Abhijeet Deepke, who had anticipated his arrest, recorded a video message last night. The CJP released the video soon after its leaders were taken into police custody.
"If you are watching this video, it means that the police have detained me along with Saurav and Ashutosh. In our absence, party organization in-charge Ajinkya Shinde will lead the protest at Jantar Mantar. All the workers should support him," Deepke said in the video, urging his supporters.
